Sandbags available for Linn County residents starting at 6pm

Linn County will have sandbagging material available free of charge to Linn County residents by 6 p.m. today at the Linn County Engineers Office, 1888 County Home Road, Marion. Residents are asked to bring their own shovels. Residents who need volunteer assistance with sandbagging efforts are asked to call United Way's 2-1-1 or 319-739-4211.

As flood control activities continue to occur around the perimeter of the Linn County Sheriff's Office, it is no longer safe for the public to access the building. The Linn County Sheriff's Office is hereby CLOSED FOR BUSINESS. Essential services (Patrol, Communications, and Administration) have been or will soon be relocated to the Marion Police Department.

"Renaming a post office in Sgt. 1st Class Terryl L. Pasker's honor serves as a reminder of his sacrifice," said Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), during the renaming of a downtown Cedar Rapids post office Saturday, Sept. 17. "It is also a way to honor the sacrifices of other soldiers who have lost their lives in service in our country."
