A scholar, a soldier, an athlete. A beloved teacher and mentor. A Cubs fan, a coach, a wildly popular lecturer, an expert storyteller. A dedicated husband and father, Mount Vernon's Dick Peters died Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the age of 79.

Lisbon High School took six groups to Large Group State Speech Contest Saturday at Linn-Mar High School.  The groups performed before three judges and had to receive at least two division ones to receive a division one rating. Five of the groups received a division one rating, with four of them receiving a one from all three judges.
