Library staff greatly appreciate the community’s patience during our recent closure. The Lisbon Library is now open and renovations are nearly complete.
“We have sturdy new shelves along the west wall of the library in place of the old ones which were bowing and leaning,” said director Elizabeth Hoover de Galvez. “We also have new shelves for our picture book collection which provide easy access for children. Our new shelves were made possible thanks to a donation from Howard and Phyllis Ciha.”
Hoover de Galvez said the library couldn’t have completed this project without the help of many people. The Library Board and Friends of the Library volunteered to help move books. The City’s Public Works staff removed the old shelves and installed trim around the new shelves. 2T Construction installed new insulation and walls and added a fresh coat of paint. The new shelves are from Library Furniture.International, and their team also took care of installation.
About Howard & Phyllis Ciha
Phyllis, 1934-2022, and Howard, 1925-2019, were married in 1954 and bought a farm outside of Lisbon, not far from where they grew up. Howard honorably served in the United States Army and was a lifelong farmer dedicated to caring for the land and his livestock. Phyllis was a loving wife, and absolutely loved the outdoors and life on the farm, and sometimes was referred to as the Sheep Lady at many livestock auctions. She provided excellent gardening advice and had extensive knowledge of native plants and animals. She also devoted 10 years of her life as a girls’ 4-H leader.
