MOUNT VERNON—Trick-or-treating in Mount Vernon will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, after the city council agreed to maintain its usual schedule.
Councilmember Stephanie West raised the idea of adjusting the time due to a likely home playoff game for the Mount Vernon High School football team, which is ranked sixth in the state. But City Administrator Chris Nosbisch said most trick-or-treating typically winds down before kickoff.
“For the most part, it typically dies down well before the eight o’clock hour,” Nosbisch said.
An earlier start was dismissed due to commuter traffic and limited flexibility for families. The council reached consensus without a formal vote.
The city will continue to publicize the confirmed hours in the coming days.
