LaVerne “Vern” Pitcher, 85, of Lisbon passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 6, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services in Mount Vernon. Memorial service was held that same day, with burial following at Mount Vernon Cemetery.
Vern was born March 27, 1940, in Manchester, son to Ronald and Dorothy (Cole) Pitcher. He was united in marriage to Anita Kelly on June 26, 1999, in Mount Vernon. Vern worked in Machine Maintenance for Rockwell Collins until his retirement on June 30, 2005.
Vern enjoyed fishing, woodworking, camping, playing cards and fast track, and spending time with family and friends.
Vern is survived by his wife, Anita; children, Larry (Bobbi) Pitcher and Teresa (Curtis) Johnson; stepchildren, Jeff Johnson, Terri (Mark) Philgreen, and Kelly (Walt) Colquhoun; brother, Jerry (Beverly) Pitcher; grandchildren, Damien, Casey, Kara, Abby, Erin, Tim, and Rachel; step-grandchildren, Jessica, Robbie, Clayton, Aubrey, Ashley, Hannah, and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Max, Lucus, Isabelle, Destinee, Ella, Lexi, Weylyn, Ava, Owen, Henry, and Andy; and step-great grandchild, Capri.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Dorothy Pitcher; daughter, Ronda Pitcher; brothers, Ronald Pitcher and Duane Pitcher; sisters-in-law, Beverly Pitcher and Sharon Pitcher; and dog, Teddy.
Memorials may be made to Living Hope Global United Methodist Church or the Lisbon/Mount Vernon Ambulance.
