Lorena Florence Freiburger, 64, of Lisbon, formally of Manchester, passed away Monday, June 23, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She was born April 17, 1961, in Manchester, the daughter of Earl and Florence (Welch) Hill. Lorena was raised and educated in the Manchester area and was a 1979 graduate of West Delaware High School. She then received her BSN Degree in Nursing from Kirkwood in 2005.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon with Pastor Sean Hansen officiating. Interment followed at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.
On May 27, 1979, Lorena was united in marriage to Gene Freiburger at Backbone State Park. Two children, Amanda and Daniel, were born to this union. Lorena and Gene were owners/operators of Freiburger Waste Service in Lisbon.
Lorena was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. She enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, and casually taking in an occasional stray cat. She loved fishing with Gene. Lorena loved her family, especially her grandchildren who called her “Milka”, and cherished spending time with them.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Gene Freiburger of Lisbon; her two children, Amanda (Alejandro) Tapia of San Antonio, Texas, and Daniel (Monica) Freiburger of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Liam, Mikayla, Hadley, and Hayes; two sisters, Virginia (Gary) Byers of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Gaillynn Warne of Gower, Mo.; two brothers, Richard (Peggy) Hill of Marion, N. C., and Leonard (Gina) Hill of Agency, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Lorena was preceded in death by her parents; a sister in infancy, Karen; brother-in-law, John Warne; and two nieces, Crystal Warne and Lisa Glasmann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in honor of Lorena, to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon.
