Attendees of the Wednesday Workshop at Cole Library got to build a rocket dice game Wednesday, June 25.
Cole Library’s Cathy Boggs started the workshop off reading “If you Decide to Go to the Moon,” which had a number of facts about the moon.
One of those facts was the distance from the moon from the earth and how long it would take to make that travel at 3,000 miles per hour.
On the moon, gravitational pull is much lighter than it is on Earth, allowing people to put in five times the distance with each step.
Without an atmosphere, though, wearing a proper space suit is key, as items in the sun will burn up quickly or freeze if you end up in a shaded part of the moon.
Air and water, two of the key building blocks of life, are found abundantly on Earth.
Boggs asked people if they’d like to live on the moon or Earth. The majority said Earth, but a few did say the moon.
“This is such a great program,” said Erin Wilkinson, who accompanied grandsons Cody and Lucas to the event. “It’s our third year coming to these workshops, and the kids learn so much while also having fun.”
