A new chapter in local grocery service begins next month as the new Fareway Store officially opens its Lisbon location at 930 Commercial Street Wednesday, July 9.
The highly anticipated store, located in the former Brothers Market building, is already generating buzz in the Lisbon and Mount Vernon communities. More than 50 employees have been hired, many of them local residents, including some who previously worked at Brothers Market.
The store’s preparation began in April, after taking possession of the building. Since then, extensive renovations began with Fareway’s construction and retail sales teams working behind the scenes to ensure the store is fully ready for opening day.
In the weeks leading up to the launch, the Lisbon Fareway team has been training at nearby store locations to gain hands-on experience and prepare for their roles. As the store prepares to welcome customers, the focus remains on providing strong customer service and community connections.
“The support from the community has been incredible, and we’re excited to open our doors and provide the kind of service Fareway is known for,” said store manager Kurt Vavricek.
Fareway currently operates more than 140 stores across a seven state region in the heart of the Midwest, including Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
With doors set to open July 9, the Lisbon Fareway is more than just a new grocery store— it’s a welcomed addition to a growing community. Backed by experienced leadership, a dedicated local team, and a commitment to personalized service. The store aims to become a reliable and familiar part of daily life for the residents of Lisbon, Mount Vernon, and surrounding area communities.
