No. 7 (2A) Lisbon is in firm control of the Tri-Rivers East midway through June with a 9-3 mark.
That’s thanks to doubleheader sweeps like Monday, June 9, when the Lions won twice at Easton Valley, 12-2 in four innings and 11-0 in four innings.
In the first game, the Lions had 11 hits. Emma Pleasant was 3-for-3 with double, Alexis Jensen hit 3-for-3, and Kamryn Kahl hit 2-for-3 with a double, home run and five RBI
In the second game, Addie Clark had four stolen bases. Pleasant got the pitching win with six strikeouts over 3.1 innings.
The Lions split a pair of games Thursday, June 12, at Alburnett, winning 3-1 then falling 13-6.
“In the between-game chat, we talked about how to continue and look good in both games,” Lisbon Coach Abbey Shultz said. “It didn’t exactly go our way.”
In the win, Alexa Roos and Kaitlynn Hasselbusch had RBIs and Kyla Kahl and Sarah Dietsch had doubles. Kyla Kahl pitched three-hitter with five strikeouts.
In the 13-6 loss, Sydney Techau had two RBIs and Pleasant had two doubles.
Lisbon won at Anamosa on Friday, June 13, by a score of 9-4 in extra innings.
It was tied 4-4 before the Lions scored five runs in the top of the eighth.
“It is that old saying, hitting is contagious,” Shultz said. “You just have to find that one person to start it.”
Lisbon got doubles from Clark, Jensen, Hasselbusch and Kyla Kahl and two RBIs from Jensen and Hasselbusch.
Lisbon dropped two games to highly-ranked River Valley Conference foes Saturday, June 14, falling to No. 3 (2A) Durant 10-2 in six innings and to No. 5 (3A) West Liberty, 11-1 in four innings, in West Liberty.
Against Durant, Wildcat pitcher Allison Toft limited the Lions to five hits and no walks. Against the Comets, Clark and Kamryn Kahl each had two hits for Lisbon (10-7).
“We didn’t focus on wins, but rather on getting better,” Shultz said. “We’re still working on not shutting down if something bad happens, but rather learning how to utilize it.”
