Lisbon baseball went 2-2 last week to keep their
record even at 7-7 overall. Perfectly balanced.
But the Lions may regret not sweeping Calamus-Wheatland on Monday, June 9, in Lisbon. The Lions lost 6-2 and won 4-2.
“Really wish we could’ve got that other game,” Lisbon coach Lance Kamaus said. “We couldn’t string anything together until the seventh inning.”
Lisbon pitcher Ian Whittenbaugh took the loss, despite only giving up one earned run. He had seven strikeouts.
“He only had one walk, but had a tough time locating the strike zone, and threw 103 pitches in five innings,” Kamaus said. “We made a couple of errors that didn’t help him.”
Lisbon bounced back in the second game. Carew Ka
maus pitched six solid innings, giving up just three hits and one walk. He struck out seven.
The Lions made do with five hits, two by Dakota Clark and two by Jackson Knapp.
No. 8 (1A) Don Bosco thumped Lisbon, 19-4, in five innings on Tuesday, June 10, in Lisbon. The Dons had 19 runs on 16 hits and nine walks. Bryce Boots led the Lion offense with two hits. Whittenbaugh had a double and three RBIs.
“Don Bosco is a tough customer right now,” Kamaus sa
id. “We ran into a buzzsaw, but we responded well Thursday and played through some rain and tough conditions.”
The Lions got a bounce-back game, winning Thursday, June 12, at Edgewood-Colesburg, 21-1, in four innings. Lisbon had 11 hits, with two each for Wesley Sadler, Bryce Boots, Whittenbaugh and Luke Robinson, who also had four RBIs.
