More than 300 participated in the “No Kings” standing march along Hwy. 1 and First Street in uptown Mount Vernon. The protest stretched for the two and a half blocks of Mount Vernon’s Hwy. 1 in the uptown business district.
Little Scratch opened their shop up to people who needed an ability to make a sign ahead of the protest that morning, with more than a dozen taking that option to do so.
Attendees from Voices United of Rural Linn County made sure people did not stand at the intersection to not impact visibility of drivers.
The sounds of honking horns could be heard from motorists driving by, many in support of the signs and protests.
There were a handful of people who were in opposition of the protest. Citizen Keith Huebner drove his convertible in a loop of the uptown during the span of the protest, and a few patrons at Yock’s Landing voiced appreciation for Huebner.
The protest was non-violent and wrapped up at roughly noon.
