Get the Bugs Out!

The bugs are returning! Jim Durbin, who has been documenting insects for the last 20+ years, will be helping us spy on the bugs. Using a black-light, Durbin attracts bugs to a white board and photographs them. By enlarging the image, he is able to show the bugs to patrons – mostly kids – and identify them. Please wear darker clothing so the bugs don’t land on you!

Event takes places Saturday, June 20, at 9 p.m. Meet near the kiosk by the campground. Jim takes photographs of the insects, identifies them, and adds the sightings to his website https://www.insectsofiowa. org/ Event takes place Saturday, June 21, at 9 p.m. at Palisades Keplar State Park.

Doug Shannon retirement party

A retirement open house will be held for Mount Vernon Lisbon Police Chief Doug Shannon Tuesday, June 24, from 1-3 p.m. at the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department at 380 Old Lincoln Hwy, Mount Vernon.

Sts. Peter and Paul Corpus Christi Celebration

Sts. Peter and Paul will hold a Corpus Christi celebration today (Thursday, June 19) at 6 p.m. with a mass in the nearby cemetery. The event will conclude with a potluck in the fellowship hall. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for the service and a dish to share, along with plate and silverware. In case of rain, the potluck begins at 6 p.m.
