No. 7 (2A) Lisbon started the week by sweeping Calamus-Wheatland on Monday, June 2, at Bunting Field, 15-7 and 9-4.
In the first game, the Lions had 17 hits. Kamryn Kahl was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs, and Addie Clark was 3-for-5 with a triple. Emma Pleasant hit 2-for-4 with two doubles
In the second game, Alexa Roos hit 2-for-4, Addie Clark had a double and Kamryn Kahl had three RBIs.
A Tuesday, June 3, non-conference game against No. 6 (3A) Mount Vernon was suspended with the Mustangs leading 8-3 in the top of the fourth inning. A make-up date has not been set.
Then the Lions took another two home games against Springville on Thursday, June, 4, 10-2 and 10-6.
In the first game, Alexis Jensen hit 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Sarah Dietsch also had two RBIs.
In the nightcap, Kaitlynn Hasselbusch hit a triple, Lillian Gaiser was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Addie Clark and Kyla Kahl each had two hits.
“Those were four good wins for us,” Lisbon coach Abbey Shultz said. “We were seeing the ball well. We try as coaches to utilize everyone’s strength throughout our lineup.”
The Lions played two games Friday, June 6, at the Iowa City West Classic in Iowa City. They lost to No. 3 (4A) North Scott, 8-0, and to Center Point-Urbana, 9-2.
“We don’t expect to kick a 4A team’s butt, but we expect them to compete,” Shultz said. “If we want to win a state championship, it starts with those teams.”
Instead, Shultz said the Lions were a little intimidated. North Scott pitcher Chevelle Kingsley limited the Lions to two hits. CPU jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings.
“I knew we can compete with them,” Shultz said. “We got big eyes instead of playing like we should.”
