Mount Vernon girls’ soccer tied Marion 1-1 on Tuesday, April 29, and blanked West Delaware 5-0 on Thursday, May 1, in Manchester.
“Marion is a great team and I think we gave them a good fight,” Mount Vernon Coach Angie Knies said. “I thought we made big improvements. We had more drive and competitiveness.”
During the regular season, if a match ends in a tie, there are no longer shootouts.
Senior Clare Nydegger had the lone goal. Against the Hawks, freshman Liliana Grosse had two goals.
“Liliana is starting to come into her own,” Knies said. “She is understanding what she is good at and when she does, she gets goals.
“She is a quick forward who will be a great player for us for four years.”
Also against, West Delaware, junior Emara Perreault, sophomore Miranda Sellner and senior Lillian Gaiser each added one goal.
Senior Cana Safo and junior Aubrey Ford split duties in goal. Safo had two saves.
Mount Vernon improved to 6-2-2.
“Everyone is starting to click with each other on and off the field,” Knies said. “All the team bonding and relationship building has provided us with a great culture and it’s starting to show on the field.”
