The Mount Vernon boys’ soccer team overcame a tough result against Marion and took it out on West Delaware last week.
On Tuesday, April 29, No. 8 (3A) Marion scored late to force a 2-2 tie in Mount Vernon.
“A very unfortunate penalty call at the end of the match allowed Marion to equalize,” Mount Vernon coach Nathan Grosse said. “A hard pill to swallow in the moment, but overall the team gained more belief in their potential to get results against anybody.”
Sophomore Carter Gadberry had both goals, one off an assist from
senior Gavin Plathe.
The Mustangs may have taken out their frustrations Thursday, May 1, in Manchester, where they thumped West Delaware 8-0.
“It was a good disciplined effort from the team, and we had a chance to see a lot of guys get out and compete and contribute to the result,” Grosse said.
There were two goals each for junior Cash Luneckas and senior Mason Chizek. Then, one each for sophomore Caleb Bartelt, Gadberry, junior Toby Neal and freshman Caleb Norton.
Assists came from Luneckas, sophomore Cole McDermott sophomore Jonathan Winkler, Bartelt, Plathe, and Chirzek.
“We have five regular season matches this coming week-and-a-half,”
Grosse said. “A heavy schedule and we are looking to stay healthy and keep growing as a team. Really proud of these guys and their growth all season long.”
Mount Vernon is 4-4-3.
