Mount Vernon High School had 21 Division I ratings and three Division II ratings at state large group speech contest at Cedar Rapids Washington Saturday, Feb. 8, including 18 straight Division I ratings.
That 18 straight Division I ratings is a new record, according to head coach Grant Freeman. The team is co-coached by Tawnua Tenley, Mary Horst, Trevor Baty and Amy White.
All-State results were announced after press deadline for the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Sun, but will be reported next week. A speech showcase will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Mount Vernon High School Performing Arts Center. Start time is still being ironed out to minimize overlap with the girls basketball home game.
Earning Division I ratings at state were –
