Construction on the career and technical education wing and new weightroom spaces will not be finished before the beginning of the 2024-25 school year.
Superintendent Autumn Pino said that the work on the entryway, district offices and common hallways students use will be finished by that point.
Delays with some materials have impacted the project, as well as matters outside of contractors control, like the weather.
“The hold-up for the CTE space has been the diaphragm of the second floor,” said John Baker.
A construction meeting was held Thursday, July 11.
Secondary principal Jack Leighty had already met with the four impacted teachers about the delay and that they wouldn’t be in the new classrooms at the beginning of the school year. The teachers will utilize the Pride room, the balcony of the auditorium, the auditorium and the current industrial arts classrooms until the construction is finished.
Superintendent Autumn Pino said the pivot was a great example of the team work of the administrative team.
“Jack was already making these calls because he felt that was the reality of the situation on the ground,” Pino said. “It’s better to move to the plan now instead of scrambling at the very last minute.”
