Crowds definitely showed up for the Nitty Gritty Antiques Festival Thursday, July 4.
Vendors were starting to set up in the uptown Wednesday afternoon, shortly after city crews had closed the west portion of First Street off to through traffic.
Rain was in the forecast originally for the holiday, especially with a few showers earlier in the afternoon, but held off for the most part.
Aside from the antiques on sale in the center of the streets, several of the shops and restaurants in Mount Vernon were also open for the day.
Members of the Mount Vernon Baseball team were available to help as volunteers on the day, helping to haul items from a seller to one of the side streets where it could be loaded onto vehicles.
Crowds built up as the festival went on. At 8 a.m., there was a smattering of people in the uptown, but at about 11 a.m. to noon, there was a larger crowd for the festival.
The antique tractors on display in uptown definitely added more people coming out to the event and discussing those tractors.
