I can’t remember a weekend that was as busy as June 21 through June 23 for me.
Not much of it pertained to work in the end.
The first event in the itinerary was on Friday evening and getting to MVLCT’s production of “Perfect Arrangement.” It was a show that lived up to what director Starks said – balancing the comedy with the harsh realities of a forgotten or glossed-over part in our history. As I stated on Facebook, I’m tired of culture trying to pull us back into the McCarthy era of outrage and negativity on what people do in their lives that doesn’t reflect normalcy.
Saturday was a day of cleaning portions of the apartment, including the restroom and kitchen. I eventually got to Odyssey’s production of “The Phantom Tollbooth.” It was quite cute and definitely amazing to see what students accomplished in an intense three weeks of practice and be able to put up on screen.
Interspersed with all the cleaning was catching up with “Star Wars: The Acolyte’s” new episodes and “Doctor Who’s” season finale. The latter was an okay resolution for a solid season. Yes, there were uneven episodes (Space Babies was definitely not my favorite episode to begin a season with, but it also wasn’t as low as some of the absolute “I will not watch this episode again” episodes I’ve encountered) “The Acolyte” is proving Star Wars away from the Skywalker influence is definitely my jam, and with episode 5 it slowly became my second favorite Star Wars show.
Sunday I attended my first Cedar Rapids Kernels game at the Veterans Park ballpark. I navigated my way almost entirely to the ballpark, but missed one key turn.
I was attending the game as part of a Wartburg College alumni activity, so that proved to be a great deal of fun to interact with other alumni as we took in a baseball game.
I also somehow in the same time frame of the weekend finished a few different miniseries on Hulu and HBOMax, Station 11 on HBOMax among them.
Sunny Side – Packed weekends sometimes a lot of fun
