The Linn County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications to fill several voluntary appointments on County boards and commissions. Serving on a County board or commission is an excellent way to get involved with local government and contribute to the quality of life in Linn County.
Community Services Advisory Board – three-year terms
There is one opening on the Community Services Advisory Board. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may not serve more than two terms.
The Linn County Community Services Advisory Board addresses local health and human service needs by providing direct services, community planning, and administration of local, state, and federal funds in ways that promote service availability, access to services, cost-effectiveness, and quality service.
Electrical Board of Appeals – three-year terms
There is one opening on the Electrical Board of Appeals. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may serve consecutive terms without limitation.
The Electrical Board of Appeals hears and decides on the suitability of alternate methods and materials for compliance with the National Electrical Code as adopted by Linn County. The board also participates in code development and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
Food Systems Council – four-year terms
There are two openings on the Food Systems Council. Individuals are appointed for four-year terms and may not serve more than two consecutive terms.
The Food Systems Council advises on policies and programs to make the Linn County food system economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable. Members typically have expertise in various segments of the food system including banking, real estate, distribution, education, health, law, marketing, processing, procurement, production, or waste management.
General Assistance Advisory Committee
There are three openings on the General Assistance Advisory Committee. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may serve a subsequent term, but most rotate off for a year.
The General Assistance Advisory Committee provides input on services that provide temporary assistance to low-income residents who may be ineligible for state or federal assistance or waiting to be approved for state or federal assistance.
Mechanical Board of Appeals – four-year terms
There are two openings on the Mechanical Board of Appeals. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may serve consecutive terms without limitation.
The Mechanical Board of Appeals hears and decides on the suitability of alternate methods and materials for compliance with the Linn County Mechanical Code. The board also participates in code development and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
Plumbing Board of Appeals – three-year terms
There are two openings on the Plumbing Board of Appeals. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may serve consecutive terms without limitation.
The Plumbing Board of Appeals hears and decides on the suitability of alternate methods and materials for compliance with the Linn County Plumbing Code. The board also participates in code development and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.
Roadside Advisory Committee – three-year terms
There are 10 openings on the Roadside Advisory Committee. Individuals are appointed for staggered three-year terms and may serve multiple terms without limitation.
The Roadside Advisory Committee advises on demonstration projects and education for the general public and the activities of the Linn County Roadside Specialist.
Ryan White Home Health Advisory Committee – three-year terms
There are three openings on the Ryan White Home Health Advisory Committee. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may serve two consecutive three-year terms but then must rotate off the committee for a minimum of one year.
The Ryan White Home Health Advisory Committee advises on the delivery of services to individuals and families to enhance independence and improve family functioning for the healthcare needs of persons living with HIV disease by funding primary healthcare and support services.
Veteran Affairs Commission – three-year terms
There is one opening on the Veteran Affairs Commission. Individuals are appointed for three-year terms and may not serve more than two terms.
The Linn County Commission of Veteran Affairs establishes the eligibility for assistance, claims, and denials, in addition to providing advisement for Linn County Veteran Affairs.
