Lisbon Schools approved an $87,175 purchase of new furniture for the career and technical education wing, middle school classroom and other new portions of the building to be completed this fall.
The contract went to Premier FE, the lowest of the two bidders. There was only a $3,000 difference between the two companies who bid.
“We were looking for items that looked fresh but were also practical of our spending,” said superintendent Autumn Pino. “We want to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us as a district.”
Pino said while the bid came in close to the project’s expected furniture expenditures, she wanted the board to be able to approve the request.
Another factor for the decision was that the furniture would be robust and able to last over time, as this needs to last roughly a decade or more.
Board member John Baker said he agreed with the low bidder on the project, a bidder the school has worked with before on the last project for the district, and that the shades of red will be similar to ones previously ordered.
The district also approved a contract with Varsity Group for the touch screen elements that will be installed in the new lobby and concession area of the school.
The touch pro screens are shatterproof and will have different screens for different portions of the school’s history – athletics, fine arts and other elements.
Pino said they are looking to preserve a lot of the school’s history in the screens, and are also considering including looking into digitizing yearbooks and videos from some events at the school.
A new plaque will also honor the donors for the Andreas Center, as that donor wall needed to be removed as part of the lobby renovations.
“We’ll also be looking at ways to preserve the bell that is important to the Lisbon Alumni Association and members of the community as well,” Pino said.
Construction on the CTE and weight rooms are on track to be finished in August.
There are some elements of the project that Baker said they are waiting until closer to the end so they can look at contingency funds to see if they can still be a reality.
Elementary summer school students will utilize the Lisbon Early Childcare Center entrance to enter the school.
