It was another week of growth, but few wins, for the Lisbon baseball team.
The lone victory was a 15-9 win over Calamus-Wheatland on Monday, June 10, in the nightcap of a double header in Calamus.
“We jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by Ethan Hoekstra’s 3-run home run, nad continued putting pressure on Cal-Wheat offensively throughout the whole game,” Lisbon Coach Lance Kamaus said.
The Warriors won the opener, 5-2.
In the win, the Lions had 11 hits, including a triple by Dakota Clark. Clark finished with three hits, and Wesley Sandler and Bryce Boots each had two.
In the loss to C-W, Wesley Sandler and Hoekstra hit doubles for the Lions. Clark had five stolen bases and also took the pitching loss, despite limiting C-W to three hits over five innings and striking out seven.
In a 15-3 loss to Cascade on Wednesday, June 12, the Lions used five pitchers who combined to give up 10 hits and six walks. Senior Aiden Jensen took the loss.
On Thursday, June 13, in the opener against Alburnett, Karson Rose and Austin Lynn held the Lions to one hit and three walks. The Pirates won, 2-0.
In the nightcap, Alburnett led 4-3 before tagging on three runs in the bottom of the sixth to win 7-3.
Riley Stone had a single and double to pace the offense, and Ryan Ross hit a triple. Sophomore Ian Whittenbaugh took the pitching loss.
“We were right there against Alburnett,” Kamaus said. “We got great starting pitching from Brycer Boots and Ian WHittenbaugh, and backed it up with our most consistent effort in the field.”
On Friday, June 14, in an 11-1 six-inning loss at Monticello, senior Dylan Monk held the Lions to four hits and one run. Whittenbaugh had two hits.
“The kids are continuing to compete, which is all we as coaches can ask,” Kamaus said, who highlighted his assistants, Andy Givens and Alex Bock. “They’ve worked with the kids and have been positive influences at practice and in game situations.”
