Lisbon approved the repaving of Business 30 from the east city limits to the west city limits.
L.L. Pelling had the lowest bid for the repaving job, with a bid of $1.15 million for the project.
City engineer Dave Schechinger said while the bid is roughly $70,000 over the engineer’s estimate, that is likely the lowest cost that Lisbon will see for repaving Business 30. The difference in costs is roughly 6.5 percent higher than the engineer’s estimate.
The city had previously completed patchwork to Business 30 last year to reduce the estimated costs for the entire repaving project.
Schechinger said that patchwork helped the bids come in at a more favorable price.
The project was bid in two portions of separate projects, with an alternate bid taking the project from Gillette Lane to the Lisbon city limits near the substation between Mount Vernon and Lisbon (near the turn-off for the Kernoustie Golf Course).
Schechinger said that work on the project is likely to begin after the July 4 holiday and will continue until it’s been completed.
City administrator Brandon Siggins said that this will deplete the majority of funds reserved from the Iowa Department of Transportation, as well as a portion of road use tax funds, to bring the road back to the condition it was prior to the completion of the Hwy. 30 project. Siggins said he is looking to use $50,000 of additional moneys for widening the shoulders of the road where curbs and gutters do not exist. Extending the shoulders to the side of the road should increase longevity, especially when it comes to maintaining the roads during the winter.
