Uncontested primaries locally amounted to low turnout in Tuesday’s primary election, but also very few surprises in who is running for the general election. Results are not final until the canvass of the election is completed by the Linn County Auditor in coming weeks.
Mount Vernon 1 had a total turnout of 63 ballots cast in the primaries, for 3.732 percent turnout overall. Democrats comprised 39 of those ballots and Republicans 24.
On the Democrat side, Sarah Corkery for U.S. Senate (39), a write in candidate with seven votes for Senate District 42, Kent McNally for State Representative District 83 (38), Molly Donahue for Board of Supervisors District 3 (38), Todd Taylor for County Auditor (39) and Brian Gardner for Sheriff (39) were the majority votes.
For Republicans in Mount Vernon 1, Ashley Hinson for U.S. Representative (24), Charlie McClintock for Senate District 42 (22), Cindy Golding for House District 83 (21), Brandy Zumbach-Meisheid for Board of Supervisors District 3 (19), and two write ins for county auditor and county sheriff were the main vote getters.
There were no votes in the libertarian primary.
For Mount Vernon 2, a total of 43 ballots were cast, for 2.45 percent turnout. Democrats had 35 votes and eight Republicans cast ballots.
For Democrats, Corkery (35), McNally (35), Donahue (35), Taylor (35), Gardner (35) and a write-in candidate for Senate District 42 (8) were the top vote getters.
Republicans voted for Hinson (8), Golding (7), McClintock (7), Zumbach-Meisheid (7) and write ins for auditor (1) and sheriff (1) were the vote getters. There were no ballots in the libertarian primary.
Lisbon
There was a total of 42 votes cast in Franklin Township (which included Lisbon) for a turnout of 1.46 percent. Democrats cast 19 ballots while Republicans cast 13 ballots.
For Democrats, Corkery (18), McNally (18), Donahue (19), Taylor (19), Gardner (19) and a sole write-in vote were winners in the primary.
For Republicans, Hinson (12), McClintock (12), Golding (11), Zumbach-Meisheid (12) were the vote getters in the primary.
