No. 7 Lisbon softball opened the week with a pair of big wins Monday, June 3, at Springville. The Lions won 16-1 in five innings and 15-3 in six innings.
In the opener, the Lions had 13 hits, including home runs from Sarah Dietsch, Kaitlynn Hasselbusch and Addi Petersen. Kamryn Kahl, Chloe Clausen and Hasselbusch added doubles.
Kyla Kahl got the win, striking out 12 over five innings.
In the second game, the Lions had nine more hits, but none for extra bases. Dietsch had four RBIs. Petersen got the pitching win, striking out six.
Lisbon then took a pair of Tri-Rivers games from Midland on Thursday, June 6, at City Park. The Lions won 3-1 in the opener, and 8-1 in the nightcap.
Kyla Kahl held the Eagles to four hits in the opener, striking out 10. Lisbon made the most of just four hits, including a double from Alexa Roos.
In the second game, Lisbon had nine hits, including a triple by Lillian Gaiser and doubles by Roos and Kamryn Kahl. Kahl hit 3-for-3.
Senior Addi Petersen got the pitching win, limiting the Eagles to two hits and striking out five.
“The girls keep doing their fundamentals for all areas,” Lisbon coach Abbey Shultz said of the two Tri-Rivers Conference sweeps. “We are gelling as a team more and more each game and because of that. We are feeding off of each other, especially offensively.”
Lisbon (11-4) capped its week with a trip to the two-day Jesup Tournament on Friday, June 7. On the first day, Lisbon beat Crestwood, 5-4, and lost to Independence, 5-2. Saturday’s games were cancelled.
Against the Cadets, Lisbon trailed 4-0 before rallying. Addi Petersen sand Kaitlynn Hasselbusch each hit a home run.
“That was a fight until the end,” Shultz said. “We walked it off with Kyla Kahl’s double. Kaitlynn and Addi had back to back home runs in the fifth.
“Independence, we gave them a big first inning and couldn’t battle back from it.”
