Kelchen fourth at state golf
Rain eventually went away, and Lisbon golfer Kaylie Kelchen, a Mount Vernon senior, duplicated her first-round score, carding a 77 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls on Friday, May 24.
Kelchen finished at 10-over, in a tie for fourth place at the Class 3A State Meet, equaling her finish as a junior. She was also 10th at state as a sophomore.
Eden Lohrbach of Gilbert won with a 5-under 139. Kelchen finished two strokes back of third-place Ava Kalb of Dubuque Wahlert and seven back of Meghan DeLong of Clear Lake.
Gilbert won the 3A team title.
Girls’ wrestling rankings in June
Rokfin released its Waaay-Too-Early Girls’ Wrestling Rankings for 2024-25 and several locals made the list. (For the first time Iowa girls’ wrestling will be separated into two classes this year.)
Mount Vernon junior Kiersten Swart was ranked No. 2 in Class 1A at 110 pounds. Junior Gracie Pinckney was ranked No. 4 at 170 pounds. And defending state champion, senior Libby Dix, is ranked No. 1 at 190 pounds.
No Lisbon wrestlers were ranked. The two schools will have separate girls’ wrestling programs this winter.
