The Lisbon Lion baseball team started the season 0-3, but got the bats going in a big way at Lowden Memorial Park.
Lisbon hammered the North Cedar Knights 15-0 in four innings, and 30-5 in four innings, on Tuesday, May 28.
In the opener, Lisbon had eight hits, all singles, including three by Ian Whittenbaugh.
In the second game, Lisbon plated 11 runs in the first inning, and 10 in the second. Junior Dakota Clark hit 4-for-5 with a triple and five RBIs. Cole Butteris had two hits. The Lions took advantage of 13 walks.
“It was good to get a couple wins under our belt,” Lisbon coach Lance Kamaus said. “The kids had patient at-bats and hit the ball hard when given the opportunity.”
The rest of the week wasn’t nearly as fun.
Lisbon dropped a pair Thursday, May 30, at No. 8 North Linn, 9-4 and 9-1. Then capped things off with a Hwy. 30 loss to Mount Vernon.
“We had a couple bad defensive innings against North Linn in the first game and allowed seven unearned runs,” Kamaus said. “The kids continue to work hard to improve.”
A non-conference game Friday, May 24, against West Branch, was postponed due to weather.
