Primary elections Tuesday, June 4
Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. election day
Primaries will be held for the Democrat, Republican, and Libertarian Parties June 4.
Primaries are closed in the State of Iowa, which means a voter will need to declare a party (Democrat, Republican, or Libertarian) to participate in the primary.
Primary winners will move on to the Nov. 5, 2024 General Election.
Polling places will be open on election day from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Pre-registration for the primary ended May 20, so to vote in primaries, you need to participate in the Election Day registration process. Absentee ballot requests have also ended for the primary election. Absentee ballots must be received at Linn County election office by the close of polls on election day to be counted.
There are no contested races locally in the primary election. On the ballot for the parties in Lisbon, Mount Vernon and surrounding areas include:
State Senator District 42 – Incumbent republican representative Charlie McClintock. There are no Democratic or Libertarian candidates in this race.
United States Representative District 2 – Democratic candidate Sarah Corkery and incumbent Republican representative Ashley Hinson.
State Representative District 83 – Democratic candidate Kent McNally and incumbent Republican candidate Cindy Golding.
Board of Supervisors District 3 – Democratic candidate Molly Donahue and Republican candidate Brandy Zumbach Meisheid.
Linn county Auditor – Democratic candidate Todd Taylor.
Linn County Sheriff – Incumbent Democratic candidate Brian D. Gardner.
