It was a rough first week for the Lisbon baseball team.
The Lions were swept by Prince of Peace on Monday, May 20, at Lisbon City Park.
The Irish won the first game 6-3, despite only having one hit. Dakota Clark pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and four walks, but the Lions were hurt by six errors.
Cole Butteris had two hits to pace the offense.
In the second game, Prince of Peace won, 3-2, wasting a solid pitching performance from Hayden Tieskoetter, who gave up five hits and one earned run, with 11 strikeouts and two walks.
“Dakota and Hayden certainly gave us a chance to win,” Lisbon coach Lance Kamaus said. “Our approach at the plate was not our best, but I’m confident it will improve as the season progresses.”
On Thursday, May 23, at Winthrop, the Bucs scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh, and the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, to beat Lisbon, 5-4.
East Bucanan was down to its last strike in both cases.
“We faced one of the best pitchers in the conference (Will Hansen) and had a great, patient approach, knocking him out of the game in the sixth inning after 111 pitches,” Kamaus said. “Defensively, we were much improved, turning two double plays.”
Ethan Stone and Ian Whittenbaugh combined to strike out six and walk none. Luke Robinson had a double and two RBIs to lead the Lions (0-3).
