The Mount Vernon-Lisbon-Springville Soccer Club will be holding an informational meeting about the soccer club Wednesday, May 29, at 6:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon High School Commons, 731 Palisades Road S.W. Mount Vernon.
The soccer club, in it’s second year of operation, has a goal of “encouraging girls and boys to play soccer, learn and grow in the sport and play with kids who will be their teammates in middle school and in high school.” Teams are composed of youth from Mount Vernon, Lisbon, and Springville schools.
Last year, the club had more than 100 players for their spring and fall leagues, which helped comprise two 10U boys’ teams, two 12U boys’ teams, two 14U boys’ teams and one 12U girls’ teams.
“We hope to increase participation,” said Richard Lewis, organizer of the local club. “Especially with the girls across all age divisions and hopefully to add a 8U boys’ team.”
The MVLS Youth Soccer Club participates in a regional league against teams in the Cedar Rapids area.
The club has two different seasons 10 games in the fall and 10 games in the spring, as well as a tournament in the spring, which totals roughly 23 games. Lewis noted that the club’s costs are also reasonable for the number of games that kids get to participate in.
“It’s a great way to continue to get kids exposure to the sport of soccer,” Lewis said. “It just shows that if there is something available at the local level, youth will join.”
If you have additional questions or are interested in the club and unable to make the meeting, contact Lewis at [email protected] or text at 401-662-6336.
