The Mount Vernon Middle School 5K raised more than $20,000 this year.
The event kicked off Wednesday, May 8, with a performance of the middle school talent show in the morning. The talent show had an encore presentation Wednesday evening for parents and community members.
At 10 a.m., students from the middle school flowed down to the Armstrong Family Activities Complex, the beginning and end point for this year’s 5K walk and run. The route, according to Lori Moss, was designed by teacher Abby Bock.
“She does a good job varying up our 5K route each year and making sure it is the proper distance,” Moss said.
Following the run and 5K, students were able to eat lunch in the bleachers at the stadium and participate in outdoor games including spike ball, football, nine square and other activities.
