Kent McNally, the Democrat candidate for House District 83, spent time in Mount Vernon Saturday, May 4, meeting with constituents during Chalk the Walk.
McNally and his wife, Juliene, have been married for 24 years and reside in Linn County.
He is an instructor at the Cedar Rapids Electrical Apprenticeship Training and Education Trust Center, and teaches CEU classes for journeymen and apprentices. He is also a leader with IBEW Local 405 and serves on their executive committee.
Labor issues are high on the priority list for McNally, as are education issues.
“My wife worked as a paraeducator for a number of years, so I know how those funding issues for our local schools all roll downhill,” McNally said.
McNally said he had a lot of people who asked for him to consider running for an elected office over the past few years, and chose to in this election.
“We need to do more to ensure that every community across our state has well-funded public schools, strong infrastructure, and access to affordable healthcare and mental health services,” McNally said. “It’s time to level the playing field and give Iowa families the tools they need to succeed.”
