Cochrane re-signs with Chiefs
Former Mount Vernon and South Dakota star Jack Cochrane signed a contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs last week.
Cochrane has appeared in 32 regular-season games and all seven playoff games for the Chiefs over the past two seasons, contributing mainly on special teams.
According to Arrowhead Report he’ll make $985,000 in 2024-25.
“At the price point he comes with, a team can’t do much better for an end-of-roster piece,” Arrowhead Report wrote.
Cochrane, 25, has won two Super Bowls rings with the Chiefs.
Mount Vernon students compete in lacrosse
The Kingfisher Lacrosse Club includes several athletes from the Mount Vernon area. They semi-regularly play games at Armstrong Field.
Among those participating, with grade, on the boys side are Beckett Anderson (3), Kolter Moore (8), Ian Shady (12), Jake Shady (8), Hutson Wiesenhofer (8), Calvin Crawford (8), Grey Denes (8), Jakob Delany (7), Andrew Weber (8) and Daxton Recker (8).
Girls participating include Marin Denes (12), Sierra Snyder (12) and Ireland Anderson (7).
Brase, Reiling picked for Shrine Bowl
Mount Vernon senior Evan Brase and Lisbon senior Jonah Reiling were selected to play in the 51st Iowa Shrine Bowl, scheduled for July 22 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Brase was an all-state receiver who caught 60 passes for 1,042 yards and 12 touchdowns this past fall for the Mustangs.
Reiling, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound all-state offensive lineman, has committed to play at North Dakota.
In addition, three members of the Mount Vernon cheer team will participate – Brynn Lynner, Emily Patten and Nora Weiland.
