Mount Vernon dropped just its second match of the season, falling to Grinnell 6-3 on Thursday, April 25, at Grinnell.
The two teams were tied up 3-3 after singles play, but the Tigers swept the doubles matches.
“We did not play our best doubles,” Mount Vernon Coach Crystal Eskelsen said.
Mount Vernon (6-2) also beat Waverly-Shell Rock on Monday, April 22, and won at South Tama on Tuesday, April 23. Both scores were 8-1.
Against WSR: “Jordan Bleile had a heck of a comeback in her singles match,” Eskelsen said. “After trailing 7-4, Jordan fought hard to come back, winning five games in a row.”
Against South Tama, the Mustangs didn’t have No. 1 singles player, Bleile, who sat out with a pulled muscle. That meant everyone had to play up a spot, and freshman Nora Dye took the court.
“Nora got a chance to play varsity and she did a great job,” Eskelsen said.
Coach Eskelsen praised the play of Bleile, No. 5 singles Kenna Rollinger and No. 6 singles Talluhlah Norton in the match against the Tigers. “They had great singles match wins,” Eskelsen said.
