Summer ball league registrations open for MV, Lisbon
Registration for Intro to T-Ball, T-Ball, Coach Pitch and third through sixth grade baseball & softball are now open for Mount Vernon and Lisbon.
Forms for the programs at Lisbon are available online at www.cityoflisbon-ia.gov or in person at City Hall. Return the player information form along with a signed waiver to the City Hall offices. Deadline for Intro to T-Ball, T-Ball, Coach Pitch and 3rd-6th Baseball and Softball is Friday, May 3. No registrations will be taken after May 3. Enrollment deadline for intro to t-ball, t-ball, coach pitch and third through sixth grade softball and baseball at Mount Vernon are Friday, April 26, for Mount Vernon. Registration can be made at https://mtvernon.recdesk.com/ and selecting Youth Sports or picking up sheets at the Lester Buresh Family Community Wellness Center. Lions Baseball Camp
2024 Lisbon Lions Baseball Camp will be held Saturday, May 4, led by members of the high school baseball team and coaching staff. The camp will be for youth in grades first through sixth and held at Lisbon City park, with a weather date of May 11.
The camp will focus on the fundamentals that are key to the development of the young baseball player – throwing, fielding and hitting. The focus will be on developing transferable skills, fostering a strong work ethic, and promoting good sportsmanship, all while having fun and enjoying the game of baseball.
Camp will run from noon to 1:15 p.m. for first and second graders, 1:15 to 2:30 p.m. for third and fourth graders and 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. for fifth and sixth graders. Registration is $25 and deadline is Friday, April 26 to guarantee a t-shirt.

Flower identification
The Friends of the Palisades-Kepler State Park will be hosting a flower identification workshop Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to noon at the park. Meet Jan the Naturalist at the trail head to Cedar Cliff and hike the lower trail. She will point out and identify spring flowers along the way. This a free and family friendly event, but cash donations are appreciated to support the work of the Friends.
Dance Arts Iowa recital
Dance Arts Iowa will host it’s recital Saturday, May 4, at Mount Vernon Performing Arts Center Auditorium. Beginning dancers take the stage beginning at 5 p.m. and all other dancers begin the show at 7 p.m. The show features highlights from the season of dance at Dance Arts Iowa. Tickets available at the door for the show.
State of the County Address to be Held May 9
Linn County Supervisor chair Kirsten Running-Marquardt will host this year’s State of the County address Thursday, May 9, at 4 p.m. at the Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center. Supervisor Running-Marquardt will be joined by Linn County Auditor Joel Miller, who will also speak at the event.
The event is free and open to the public. No RSVP is necessary.
The State of the County will be livestreamed on Linn County’s website LinnCountyIowa.gov. A recording of the event will be available on Linn County’s website following the event.
