Cornell’s women’s tennis team rounded out their regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon, falling in a tightly contested dual match against Wartburg College, 5-4 at the Cornell tennis courts. The Rams honored seniors, Makayla Johnson and Ashley Mink in their last home matches on senior day.
Mink and Johnson have combined for 127 victories with the Rams, 51 coming this campaign.
The Rams finish the regular season with a 13-11 record, claiming the most dual wins in a season since 2017 (18).
Cornell claimed their lone doubles win at No. 2, thanks to a tiebreak win by Tansy Graves/Mink, 8-7(5). The Rams No. 3 duo of Audrey Small/Isabella Wallin came up just short in a tiebreak loss, 8-7(2).
The Rams rallied for a 4-3 lead in the meet after winning three singles matches. Tansy Graves (6-1, 6-3) at No. 1, Small (6-1, 6-4) at No. 3 and Johnson (6-2, 6-2) at No. 4 pushed the Rams ahead in the dual.
Mac Graves and Mink battled through third set tiebreakers, and narrowly were defeated to give the Knights the final point of the meet.
Coming up: Cornell hits the road on May 4th, for the Midwest Conference Automatic Qualifying tournament in Middleton, WI. The Rams enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed, and will face No. 2 seed Lake Forest in the semi-finals at 12pm at Hitters Sportsplex.
