Another cold, windy spring day and another victory for Mount Vernon girls’ tennis, which topped Maquoketa, 8-1, on Friday, April 19 in Mount Vernon.
“Ashtyn Rollinger played a good match at 4 (singles), struggling a bit early and then regrouping and adjusting to the wind to get the win,” Mount Vernon coach Crystal Eskelsen said. Rollinger won 8-4, topping Sophie Payton.
The only loss was Lainey Kelly falling to Maraya Downey of Maquoketa at No. 3 singles, 9-8 (7-0).
“Lainey fought for that match, but ran out of steam at the end,” Eskelsen said.
A match at Camanche on Thursday, April 18, was postponed to Thursday, May 2.
