Lisbon boys track team picked up a meet after another was cancelled last week, and won it going away … So maybe they won’t be invited back?
After the Tipton Invitational on Tuesday, April 16, was cancelled due to weather, the Lions got an invite to the Ron Maxson Relays on Thursday, April 18, in West Liberty.
Lisbon took the title with 188 points, far outpacing second-place Durant (86) in the six-team event.
Most notable, Jonah Reiling broke the school record in the discus with a throw of 157 feet, 6 inches.
“We had a lot of season-best performances at the meet,” Lisbon coach Lonnie Speidel said. “So, it was worth picking up.”
The Lions won 10 events in West Liberty. Also winning individual gold were Justin Snyder (high jump), Reiling (shot put), Baylor Speidel (100, 200), Michael Gadberry (800), and Sawyer Feldman (1,600).
Girls
On Thursday, April 18, the Lisbon girls competed at the Washington Invitational at Case Field in Washington. The home team won the meet, and Lisbon was sixth.
“This was a new meet for us this year,” Lisbon Coach Brett Epperly said. “It was very competitive and a great opportunity for us to run against some other 2A, 3A and even 4A competitors.
“This meet gave us a lot of opportunity for everyone to get involved and for us to make some final tweaks to our lineup as we start to come down the home stretch of our season.”
Against some bigger schools, the Lions were led by second-place Addy Happel in the 200 and Addie Clark in the 400 hurdles. The sprint medley team also took silver.
