More than 45 racers participated in the first Friends of the Palisades-Kepler 5K run and walk, held Saturday, April 20. Proceeds from this race will go towards park improvements at Palisades-Kepler State Park, including to railings for one of the popular overlook trails.
“For an event we started organizing less than three months ago, we’re extremely happy with the turnout,” said Jesse Thurn, member of the Friends of the Palisades Kepler 5K.
While temperatures were a little brisk in the morning, spirits were high and racers completed the out and back trail at Bass Farms. Little Scratch brewers were handy Saturday, providing coffee for racers and attendees of the event.
Thurn said they hope to make this an annual event, and will return even better next year.
Philip Kalina was the top male finisher in the Friends of the Palisades 5K held Saturday, April 20, at Bass Farms. Kalina had a time of 25:09, and was also the top finisher overall in the race.
Top female finisher in the race was Emily Salier with a time of 28:10.
There were a few hiccups on the route this year, as it was the first time for event organizers and volunteers, and feedback was collected following the race for needed improvements for the next event.
