Cornell’s Natalie McAllister captured the heptathlon title with a top-10 NCAA mark at Augustana’s Meet of Champions, contested Friday and Saturday.
McAllister, an all-American fourth-place finisher in the heptathlon a year ago, compiled 4,619 points in the seven events which ranks No. 8 nationally this outdoor season. She beat runner-up Megan Hunt of UW-Oshkosh by 368 points.
McAllister claimed event wins in the 100 hurdles (14.83), shot put (36-7.50) and 200 (26.49). She took second in the high jump (5-1.75), long jump (17-4.75) and javelin (109-11), and was fourth in the 800 (2:44.77).
Sophomore teammate Hailey Carolan also fared well in her heptathlon debut, finishing fifth out of 21 competitors with 4,075 points. Carolan won the high jump (5-3.75) and 800 (2:33.48).
Hadley Beaty led Cornell’s performances at Saturday’s Dick Young Classic in Grinnell, winning the men’s long jump (21-4.75) and running the opening leg on the first-place 4×400 relay (3:28.99) that featured Currey Jacobs, Jaxin McGuire and anchor Isaak Hutchings. Beaty was runner-up in the 100 (11.11).
Gabe Soda beat 15 competitors in the 1500, clocking a winning time of 4:00.47. The men secured second-place finishes from Nicholas Yelkin in the shot put (40-10.50), Julius Jenkins in the javelin (133-05), Doniel Greiner in the 200 (23.43) and McGuire in the 400 (52.21).
On the women’s side, sophomore Ava Claussen-Tubbs was victorious in the 400 (1:00.06) and ran on the second-place 4×400 relay (4:16.22) that included Willow Ziegler, Katie Lammers and Olivia Cotton.
Newcomer Bri Osterson won the long jump (15-8.75), placed second in the javelin (115-0) and third in the shot put (36-4).
Ziegler ran 1:04.37 for second place in the 400. Sophie Stumbo was third in the 3000 steeplechase (13:11.95).
