The Mustangs picked up a pair of girls’ tennis wins last week, blanking Maquoketa, 9-0, on Monday at Maquoketa, April 8, and topping Independence, 5-4, on Thursday, April 11, in Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon (3-1) won four singles matches – Jordan Bleile, Lainey Kelly , Kenna Rollinger and Tallulah Norton – against Independence, and despite two close matches they lost in doubles, clinched the team victory with Kelly and Kenna Rollinger rolling at No. 2 doubles, 8-0.
Mount Vernon swept Maquoketa on the road. No. 3 singles player Lainey Kelly won a tight match against Maraya Downey 9-8 (7-3).
