Mount Vernon picked up a tournament title last week, winning a seven-team tournament Tuesday, April 9, at Kalona Golf Course.
The Mustangs finished with 337 strokes, seven ahead of host Mid-Prairie. Tommy Rhomberg led the team with an 82 card over 18 holes.
“Considering that Tommy and Startton (Ellyson) had never seen the Kalona Golf Course, which is tough and tricky, I was really happy about the way that the boys played,” Mount Vernon coach John Rhomberg said. “Getting our first tournament win of the season is also really fun.”
The Mustangs also placed third at the Tipton Invitational on Thursday, April 11, carding a 348 over 18 holes. West Branch won the eight-team event with a 330, followed by Tipton (331).
“Conditions were really tough, with 30-40 mph winds and a brief rain shower,” Rhomberg said. “None of the guys felt very good about their scores.”
Mount Vernon also lost a dual to Williamsburg, 165-181, on Monday, April 8, at Stone Creek Golf Club.
