It was a rough week for the Mount Vernon boys’ soccer team.
The Mustangs lost four straight, and were shut out in three of the matches. They lost to Clear Creek Amana, 2-1, on Friday, April 12, at the Martha Parsons Activities Complex.
Junior Adbala Ebdala scored both goals for the Clippers.
The lone Mustang goal was by Gavin Plathe.
“We played much closer to our potential,” Mount Vernon coach Nathan Grosse said. “We had chances to win, but came up on the short end of a corner kick in the second overtime.”
Mount Vernon (2-4) lost to Marion, 7-0, on Tuesday, April 9, then dropped a pair at the Cedar Rapids Washington Invitational on Saturday, April 13, at Kingston Stadium.
The Mustangs lost to Cedar Rapids Xavier, 2-0, and to C.R. Washington, 4-0.
“Two solid teams,” Grosse said. “Playing overtime Friday night and two matches Saturday was not good scheduling, and is something we will not do next spring. Just too much soccer in 24 hours.
“I was happy with the way the team finished the C.R. Washington match and look to build off of that going into this week.”
Mount Vernon senior Klayten Perreault controls the ball as CCA sophomore Teegan Michel closes in Friday, April 12, in Mount Vernon.
