Cornell’s baseball team took the lead into the seventh inning, although couldn’t hold on in Sunday’s 11-9 Midwest Conference setback to Ripon at Francis Field.
Ripon won two of three games in the series, which featured 53 total runs scored between the teams.
The Rams outhit the home team in the rubber game, 14-11, led by a 3-for-4 effort by Sean Alvarez who scored his 39th and 40th runs of the season.
Freshman Cade Parks connected for his first home run as a Ram, and the team’s 20th this spring. Kale Rose went 2-for-5, hiking his batting average to .444.
Esteben Perez, Ridge Bowolick and Ryan Weaver also tallied two hits apiece for Cornell, which led 9-7 through six innings.
Ripon scored four times in the seventh to claim the lead for good. The Red Hawks took advantage of seven Cornell errors that resulted in six unearned runs.
Earlier in the week, the Rams picked up a 19-14 win against Marian (Wis.), a 6-5 and 13-12 wins against Grinnell, as well as a 13-5 loss to Grinnell.
