In this week’s newspaper, you will see the Progress Special Section for 2024.
Each year, this section highlights new Mount Vernon and Lisbon businesses as well as businesses celebrating an anniversary or other notable changes.
Some of them, like White Tree Bakery, have opened multiple store fronts in the community and grown with the demand and love of its customers.
Others, like Plaza Auto Auction, have been staples in this community for over six decades.
All businesses mentioned, however, are weathering today’s business climate and providing services and items you cannot otherwise find in these areas.
The newspaper as well could have been listed in the Progress Special Section, what with the new owners, a new layout team, and new partnerships we are working on, including with student journalists at The Daily Iowan who will assist with our coverage in the coming months and years. You might see some of their stories that the editor thinks have some crossover appeal on our pages, especially regarding coverage of state government and other issues.
As always, this newspaper focuses on the local area first, and the additional coverage on some of these larger issues is provided to draw more eyes for both papers.
