Cece Zanoni and the high-scoring Rams were too much for Hamline to handle in Sunday’s 12-7 Midwest Lacrosse Conference victory at windy Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
Zanoni totaled eight points and became the program’s career leader for assists in helping Cornell (10-2 overall, 1-1 MLC) equal the school record for wins in a season, set in 2023.
The Rams netted double-digit goals for the ninth time this spring. Zanoni delivered four scores and assisted on four others. The junior passed Nina Deer (33 assists from 2019-22) for No. 1 on Cornell’s all-time assists list with 36.
Cornell led the Pipers (5-4 overall, 0-1 MLC) throughout, although was in an 8-6 battle deep into the third quarter. Hailey Sieler and Anna Methe recorded back-to-back goals to end the third, and Sieler struck again early in the fourth to build Cornell’s lead to 11-6.
India Smith had another big game with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers, both team-highs. She had one goal and dished two assists.
Meg Lewis and Sieler finished with two goals apiece. Brynn Miroslavich, Methe and Cheyenne Greenenwald each added one goal.
Goalie Hannah Miech went the distance for Cornell, posting five saves and limiting the Pipers to one fourth-quarter goal. Ilsa Jeffery contributed four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
