A little snow and freezing rain couldn’t stop Mount Vernon and Solon from opening the spring golf season Monday, April 1, at Kernoustie Golf Club.
Solon took the win, 151 to 166.
“It was raining and cold during the entire round,” Mount Vernon coach John Rhomberg said. “Grips were wet, hands were cold, and the greens were totally saturated. Yet, our guys hung in there and finished their rounds strong.”
The Mustangs were led by freshman Tommy Rhomberg with a 37. He was followed by his older brother Joey Rhomberg with a 42, and fellow freshman Stratton Ellyson with a 43.
The Spartans are coming off a fifth-place finish in 3A last season. Isaiah Zoske and Jack McCarty were co-medalists with a 1-under 34.
