Would you like to take up a little bit of gardening this year, or are you already an avid gardener looking to connect with others who also love this hobby?
The Master Gardeners of Linn County are holding three different classes this spring just for you. Sessions will be held in both Lisbon and Mount Vernon. Classes are free, but participants must register in advance.
On Thursday, April 18, join the Master Gardeners for a “Beginning Gardening” class that will cover topics like site location, soil, garden design, and tips on planting, maintaining and harvesting the garden. This class will take place from 6:30-7:30 pm at Southeast Linn Community Center in Lisbon.
Thursday, May 9, participants will learn all about herbs—how to grow them and how to enjoy them. You will see, smell, touch, and taste the herbs discussed, and then choose three herbs to plant in a pot and take home. This class is offered both at the Lester Buresh Center at 1 p.m. and at Southeast Linn Community Center from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Thursday, May 16, the class will focus on container gardening. Participants will learn best practices for planting a variety of vegetables and flowers in containers, and you will also have a choice of several plants with which to fill a container for taking home. This class is offered at Southeast Linn Community Center from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Participants are welcome to attend as many sessions as they like! Those who are interested in attending should contact staff at Southeast Linn ([email protected] or 319-455-2844) and the LBC (319-895-9513) in order to register.
This summer will also feature a number of classes given by Master Gardeners for kids, hosted by Southeast Linn and the Lester Buresh Center. Parents interested in registering their children for the classes can contact staff at the respective locations for more information.
