Sophomore Hailey Carolan broke her own high jump record and ascended to the top of the national list, highlighting several winning performances at Saturday’s Cornell Track & Field Invitational.
Carolan cleared a personal-best height of 5 feet, 7 inches on her first attempt, erasing her previous program record of 5-6.50 set in 2023. A two-time all-American in the event, Carolan’s jump ranks No. 1 on the NCAA Division III leaderboard this outdoor season.
Carolan was among five event winners for Cornell’s women’s squad, which took runner-up in a tight battle with Mount Mercy for the team title. The Rams racked up 131 points, only 3.5 behind the Mustangs.
Carolan also raced to victory in the 400 hurdles (1:08.27), took third in both the 100 hurdles (15.98) and long jump (16-0.50) and anchored the third-place 4×100 relay (50.83).
Natalie McAllister captured titles in the 100 hurdles (15.24) and long jump (17-5.25) in her final home meet. She placed second in the high jump (5-2.25).
Sophomore Ava Claussen-Tubbs anchored the 4×400 relay of Sidney Brown, Willow Ziegler and Caitlyne Mar to a winning time of 4:13.75. Claussen-Tubbs ran a close second in the 800, crossing in 2:21.94.
Newcomer Bri Osterson finished runner-up in the javelin (111-6). Alyza Koppes was second in the 1500 (4:58.63).
Cornell’s men placed sixth in the 11-team field with 70 points, led by first-year Hadley Beaty who scored top-three finishes in four events.
Beaty was runner-up in the long jump (20-5.25) and took second out of 37 competitors in the 200 (22.38). He crossed third in the 100 (10.94) and ran leadoff on the third-place 4×400 relay (3:34.58) that included Fisher Isaacson, Gabe Soda and Isaak Hutchings.
Hutchings won the 800 in 1:58.96. Soda (4:02.76) and Isaacson (4:05.47) went 2-3 in the 1500.
Junior Wallace Schmotzer placed fourth in the 400 hurdles (59.76).
Cornell split two points with rival Coe in the 2023-24 Bremner Cup All-Sports Series, which the Kohawks now lead 11-3. Cornell’s women beat the Kohawks in dual scoring, 119-55. Coe’s men prevailed, 92-76.
