The Mount Vernon boys’ golf team shot pretty well a year ago, but they just didn’t win (according to Bound). Not once. Not a dual, not a triangular, not a tournament.
But with five regulars back, and a talented ninth grade roster, expect a few in the ‘W’ column this spring.
“We have a nice big group this year,” Coach John Rhomberg said.
Senior Cooper Parks returns as the top golfer (43.29 9-hole average). Others returning include senior Jacob Hale (45.75), senior Tait Rentschler (47.20), junior AJ McDermott (45.43), and junior Garret Swartzendruber (45.40).
The Mustangs will also have a group of eight freshmen that Rhomberg calls “talented.”
And don’t let the win-loss thing fool you. The Mustangs shot well last spring, with a 9-hole season-low of 162 and 9-hole average of 173.6. But the competition was tough. Mount Vernon finished eighth at the WaMaC Tournament.
