The City of Lisbon’s levy rate for the coming fiscal year will be reducing from $12.44 per $1,000 to $12.42 per $1,000.
City administrator Brandon Siggins said that reduction is due to reassessments of properties that occurred this fiscal year.
“We’re able to draw on $102 million of property valuation this year, compared to $99 million in the past,” Siggins said. “That means we’re able to draw a little more value from the levy rate this year.
There were no members of the public present at the budget hearing Monday, March 25, at 6 p.m.
Council member John Bardsley asked what percent of taxes the city accounts for in what is collected from citizens.
City clerk Christina Eicher said that there are increases in the general funds for this year pertaining to the salary of the new library director and a public works employee for their increase to IPERS and FICA payments. Otherwise, those were budget neutral hires for the City of Lisbon.
During the regular meeting, the council also approved a 2 percent increase for water rates and 3 percent increase for sewer rates. Those increases were made because of the debt service levies on those services that they are paying off.
Siggins also said that the city will be increasing the security deposit for new water customers from $100 to $150.
“The security deposit is usually there to cover upwards of three months of water service, and our current deposit does not do that,” Siggins said.
